On Saturday 5th September 2009 Colchester town centre  played host to the first Colchester Carnival in 10 years, a dramatic, high profile, one-day event, laid on by  elite magazine & sponsored by Waitrose

The 2010 Carnival is now scheduled for Saturday 4th September 2010 when once again Colchester Town Centre will play host to The Colchester Carnival organised by elite magazine & sponsored once again by Waitrose.

If you are interested in joining the carnival and sponsoring a float please click here to download the application form.

2009 attracted huge crowds estimated at 35,000 people with 1,000 people in the procession. We anticipate simulate crowds lining the route but with 3,000 people in the procession and an very rough estimate of not more than 300 vehicles. In 2009 the procession took approximately half an hour to pass, in 2010 we estimate it will take an hour and a half. You can see a 3 minute sample of the carnival playing on the right.

In 2009 the procession consisted of 50 entrants taking two hours starting at 18.00 so was approaching dusk when it finished.  In 2010 we plan limit the numbers to 150 groups and to start at 14.45 finishing at about 18.00 which we think fits better with a family audience.

We will again be setting up at Goojerat Barracks  from 12 noon.

We need volunteers to act as stewards along with groups entering into the Carnival spirit by dressing up.

Last year we raised over £4,000 for charity, we hope to exceed this for out 5 chosen charities: -

ABF The Soldiers' Charity'

FACETS

Heritage Colchester

Cancer Research UK

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Colchester
